Do domestic market characteristics influence firms' export intensity?

Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence firms' external environment on their export intensity. More specifically, it assesses whether domestic market characteristics such as demand and general related tradability across borders affect Design/methodology/approach authors use a sample 29,266 firms from nine European countries, for period 2010–2016, test several estimation methods (random effects models, Tobit Heckman's selection models). Findings Results show that factors ease trade are important determinants Moreover, results reveal firm's internal age, size productivity also play an import role. Originality/value Studies about intensity scarce because most them confined single country context. In way, present contributes body knowledge can have performance by analyzing which has policy implications.
